HOPSCOTCH: Sep 05–07
North Carolina’s premier event celebrating diverse and eclectic music has announced its lineup for the 2024 edition, including St. Vincent, Waxahatchee, Faye Webster, JPEGMafia, the Jesus Lizard’s first NC performance in 15 years, the Asheville trifecta of MJ Lenderman, Wednesday, and Indigo de Souza, and so much more. For now, GA passes are just $159 for three full nights of jams, so get some today.
PEGG
Pegg is a brand-new project from New York City with a self-titled debut album due August 23 via IS NOT MUSIC. Its skeleton was based on a set of grooves Xander Duell created with quietly influential experimental R&B enigma Jon Bap. Produced by the acclaimed Bartees Strange, Pegg also features folks behind Buke and Gase & Standing on the Corner, members of Sleater-Kinney & Kelela touring bands, plus Fusilier, Van Dyke Parks, and more. Watch the music video for “Geronimo” now—endorsed by Gold Flake Paint—and preorder the LP today on limited edition “Celestial” splatter vinyl.
SKYLAR GUDASZ
With her third LP, COUNTRY (in stores August 09 via Perseids Records), Gudasz interrogates borders of land and sea, mind and body: the limit of the lines we draw for ourselves. The North Carolinian has been compared to Leonard Cohen and Lana Del Rey by Pitchfork, and Bitter Southerner described her as "the Joni Mitchell the South never had." Hear for yourself on COUNTRY’s first two cuts—“Fire Country” and “Mother’s Daughter”—and preorder the LP today on exclusive “Watercolor” marble vinyl. Gudasz has announced a release show at Saxapahaw’s Haw River Ballroom on October 11, with more shows to be announced next week.
POP MONTREAL: Sep 25–29
Tickets to individual shows & discovery passes to all five days at $141.52CAD are on sale now. Where else are you gonna see Iris DeMent and Manny Fresh on the same poster, or YHWH Nailgun and Beverly Glenn-Copeland? Click shuffle on POP’s Official Playlist to get acquainted with the rest of this adventurous 23rd edition of the legendary Quebec festival.
TRUTH CLUB
TC made it to the west coast for the first time last month with the help of Cloud Nothings and clearly had a fantastic time. Then the band hauled ass back to North Carolina in time to play the Durham Bulls Athletic Park with Fleet Foxes and Dhed. They’ll scoot up to NYC for a Friday night show at Union Pool on July 12 before linking up with Youbet for several shows in Boston, Montréal, Toronto, Chicago, and more. Find the show nearest you and pick up a copy of Running From the Chase here or at the merch table.
LILY SEABIRD
Seabird’s got a few dates in New England next month with Babehoven (in full band formation) and Allegra Krieger (in solo formation). Later that month, she’ll tour out to Pickathon as a member of Greg Freeman’s band before flying to the UK to tour as a member of Lutalo’s band. She’ll be back stateside in time to play Hopscotch in September. Have you listened to Alas, yet? No? Why not?
Would love to get Lily & crew to Providence! 🤞
