DANA GAVANSKI
LATE SLAP is the London musician’s third record, out April 05 via Full Time Hobby, her most adventurous and rewarding to date. The highly infectious “Ears Were Growing” is the latest single from the album, released on leap day, sure to make fans of anyone with Klaus Nomi and Talking Heads records in their collection. Get pulled in further with “How To Feel Uncomfortable” and “Let Them Grow”—those in the UK can catch Gavanski and her band in May.
HOUR
The Philadelphia instrumental ensemble are SXSW-bound, previewing compositions from their forthcoming album Ease the Work (out April 12 via Dear Life Records). Fond of Bill Frisell, Fuubutsushi, or Rachel’s? This one’s for you. Since announcing the album last month with the music video for the Stereogum-approved “Hallmark,” the group soundtracked a live taping of Drifting Off With Joe Pera at a sold out Williamsburg Opera House. Be on the lookout for new audio and visual from this special group on Wednesday.

NATHANIEL RUSSELL
Indiana-based Nathaniel Russell makes drawings, paintings, prints, murals, objects, music and videos. His new record Songs Of is due May 24 via Psychic Hotline. Produced by Amelia Meath of Sylvan Esso and The A’s, it’s an album Russell envisioned being sold at his funeral’s merch table, but you can pre-order now through more trad channels like the label’s webstore or your favorite independent record shop. Last week, with Songs Of’s announcement, arrived a lyric video for the album’s playful opening track “Wonderful To Be In Love,” illustrated and animated by Russell.
POP MONTRÉAL: September 25–29, 2024
Alongside M Pour Montréal, POP returns to Swan Dive on Wednesday to showcase up-and-coming Québec acts that generate buzz both locally and abroad. Don’t skip, always a treat! Discovery Passes are available now for the festival’s 23rd iteration.
TRUTH CLUB
The North Carolina band wrapped up a tour with Indigo De Souza last month, playing some of their biggest rooms to date. A glitchy, vibraphone’d alternate version of Running From the Chase’s “Blue Eternal” was released on the Big Hug Volume Two compilation at the top of the month. More tourdates to be announced, and everyone should flock to NC to catch TC play Sylvan Esso’s Good Moon Festival at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park with Fleet Foxes and Dhed on May 31.
KATIE VON SCHLEICHER
New Yorkers, catch KvS next on March 28 at Brooklyn’s Union Pool with Liam Kazar, and New Englanders, catch KvS on tour with Frankie Cosmos this May. Revisit her NPR Tiny Desk Concert and pick up A Little Touch of Schleicher in the Night on vinyl via Bandcamp while you wait.
