🥤 SIPSMAN COMMUNIQUE: September 2024
The Convenience • Market • POP Montréal • Katie von Schleicher • Lily Seabird • Hopscotch
I took this picture earlier this month as Francine brushed New Orleans. The power went out minutes after and came back on at 2am but I didn’t back to this communiqué until now…
HOPSCOTCH
Freshly on the other side of my first Hopscotch as an North Carolina expat. So great to see Truth Club and Lily Seabird on the same bill, thanks to the Psychic Hotline/Good Moon/Wednesday/MJ Lenderman hivemind. Make sure to check out Under The Radar and Indy Week for coverage, as well as Flood and RVA Mag for photographic evidence.
POP MONTREAL
I am presently in one of the greatest cities in North America, home to one of the greatest festivals in North America <3 POP Montréal starts at 5pm. If you’re in town please say bonjour hi, let’s see Iris DeMent or Beverly Glenn-Copeland or Juana Molina or Egyptian Lover or all of the above. For excellent recommendations, check out Paper, Seven Days, CultMTL, Range, and marg.mp3.
MARKET
Market is the songwriting project of Brooklyn’s Nate Mendelsohn, and Well I Asked You A Question is the incredible name of Market’s new album, out November 01 via Western Vinyl. Fond of records named Pet Sounds, Fantasma, Insignificance, Blonde, or XO? This one’s for you. Following August’s loosie single “Apple” is “Sertraline,” a rushing fever dream of a song that arrived with a vision quest music video directed by Frankie Cosmos’ Greta Kline, which you should absolutely watch now.
THE CONVENIENCE
Yesterday, Nick Corson and Duncan Troast shared "Routiner" and "Postcard," the first glimpse of new musical directions from their project The Convenience, released via Winspear on the best physical format around (baloney 7-inch). Thanks to Stereogum and Austin Town Hall for getting down to this exciting pivot from the production and songwriting duo from New Orleans.
KATIE VON SCHLEICHER
Following a show at Brooklyn’s Union Pool on Friday, KvS will tour “all the major west coast cities” next month with Destroyer, aka The People’s Curmudgeon™. The tour will end in Las Vegas on the one-year anniversary of A Little Touch of Schleicher in the Night, released via Sipsman and named one of 2023’s best albums by Rolling Stone, Brooklyn Vegan, and me.
LILY SEABIRD
Big news imminent, but make sure to catch Seabird slappin’ da bass for Lutalo on their North American tour supporting Nilüfer Yanya which begins this Saturday in Philadelphia.
